New York is one of the world’s great cities, and many of the attractions are within walking distance. If you have never been to New York there are a few things that you simply must do including a visit to The Metropolitan Museum, Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, and Brooklyn Bridge. However, the first thing to do is to head to Times Square, as this is where you will get a feel for the city by checking out the street cam.
The webcam has changing views, of the square, the city, and the streets and allows people who have never been there to view it realistically and to feel part of the everyday bustle of the inner city. Back in the 1990s, the state took possession of the area, and then, Mayor Guliani led a ‘clean-up’ effort.
Security was increased in the area, and many low-rent tenants were encouraged to relocate. New office towers, hotels, and bars made the area attractive to tourists. The area now has many restaurants of all nationalities.
What do you see on the street Cam? You may be visiting New York for the first time, go along to Times Square 1560 Broadway and wave to your family back home, this will make them happy as they will see you are alive and well, and it saves phone calls.
This is an exciting place as the Great White Way leads off the area, and you will be able to book live theatre tickets. The intersection is teeming with pedestrians making it the world’s most visited tourist attraction with more than 39 million people annually.
The live streaming will take you on a tour of the Square that now boasts attractions like ABC’s Times Square Studios, Hershey Store, and M&M store. There are lots of illuminated signs, and the signage is a legislative requirement so they are everywhere and the really big ones are called ‘jumbotrons’. It is all very colorful at night, and you will see, NASDAQ sign, Coca-Cola, Samsung, and many others. Times Square also hosts some annual events, including midsummer solstice, marked by Yoga events. On Valentine’s Day, you will see an enormous illuminated heart.
The pedestrian plaza is a place where topless women with painted breasts, known as ‘desnudas’ and others in strange costumes look for tips from passers-by. Work has started on pedestrian flow zones, due to the levels of complaint about the women, the idea is to keep pedestrians moving along, and activity zones where the women can perform. You will probably see all this on the camera so tune in.
If you are at home on New Year’s Eve, you will have the best seat in the house, while streaming from home. Revelers crowd into Times Square and a massive ball signifying New Year’s Day was first dropped from Times Square in 1907, and since then the celebrations have grown. The COVID-19 pandemic has meant that more people are staying at home, and you now have a new way of viewing the events of Times Square in real-time.
Streaming live is not only interesting but has been proven to be a crime deterrent as criminals are less likely to act when they know that they are live on camera. Weather conditions also play a part, and during a snowstorm, it is hard to see what is happening on the webcam.
If you are planning a trip to the big apple, you can get a good idea of what you want to do in Times Square just from watching the streaming, and a must to visit is Madame Tussauds with the wax figures of famous people, you can take a selfie with your favorite characters.
There are so many bars and restaurants to keep you entertained, and if you want a change of scene, Bryant Park is just around the corner, with a lovely green lawn and a free skating rink.
